Donburi, also known as 'Don', is a popular Japanese dish that literally means 'rice bowl'. It consists of a bowl of cooked rice topped with various ingredients ranging from meat and fish to vegetables. It is easy to prepare, versatile, and provides a balanced meal in one bowl. Donburi is also known for its different variations such as Oyako Don, Gyu Don, and Vegan Don, each offering unique flavors and textures but all sharing the same basic concept of a one-bowl meal.

Oyako Don is a delicious and classic donburi dish from Japan. The dish consists of juicy pieces of chicken and creamy eggs, creating a perfect harmony of flavors and textures. The name "Oyako Don" is derived from the Japanese word for "parent and child", symbolizing the key ingredients of this dish. The idea behind the name is that the chicken represents the parent and the eggs represent the child. This dish is not only a culinary delight but also a tribute to the bond between parent and child. 1. Cook 1 cup of Japanese rice. Check out our guide here to choose the best type of rice for your dish, and here for the guide on how to cook rice.
  2. Slice the chicken diagonally into thin pieces.
  3. Marinate the chicken in Sake.

  4. In a pan, combine soy sauce, mirin, and dashi. Then bring to a boil.

  5. Add chicken and onions to the pan and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

  6. Whisk the eggs in a bowl. The egg white and yolk don't need to be completely dissolved, you can have large pieces of white and yellow visible.

  7. Gradually pour the roughly beaten eggs over the chicken and onions.

  8. Cover the pan and let it cook for another 5 minutes or until the eggs are set.

  9. Serve over a bowl of cooked rice and enjoy!
