How to roll Maki sushi?

A maki roll is a sushi roll with Nori (seaweed) on the outside. Popular types of Maki include Kappa Maki (cucumber), Avocado Maki, Tuna Maki, and Salmon Maki. For salmon, it is best to use a piece of fresh salmon fillet.

  1. Prepare your bamboo mat by wrapping it in foil.
  1. Dampen your hands slightly so that the rice doesn't stick to your hands. Place the rice on the Nori sheet and spread it gently with your fingers to the corners. Ensure that the rice layer is approximately Place a sheet of Nori (seaweed) on the bamboo mat with the rough side facing up. The rougher (less shiny) side is where the rice goes.
  1. Prepare your toppings. Cucumber: Slice the cucumber into strips lengthwise. Avocado: Slice the avocado into strips lengthwise. Tuna: Slice the tuna into strips lengthwise. Salmon: Slice the salmon into strips lengthwise. Try to cut everything to a width of approximately 1 cm.
  1. Place your favorite topping in the middle of the layer of rice.
  1. Roll the sushi tightly with the bamboo mat facing upwards. You can keep your finger on the filling to make rolling easier.
  1. Dampen the end of the Nori sheet slightly to make it stick well. Lift the end of the bamboo mat a little and continue rolling. Press the bamboo mat firmly, but gently.
  1. If there is any rice sticking out, put the roll back in the bamboo mat, hold it firmly but gently, and press the rice down with slightly damp fingers.
  1. Use a sharp knife and moisten it slightly with water. Slice the sushi into neat pieces and serve with wasabi, soy sauce, and ginger.
